“Human madness is oftentimes a cunning and most feline thing. When you think it fled, it may have but become transfigured into some still subtler form.”
Herman Melville, Moby Dick
Well there comes a day when either you do or you don’t! For the last five months, from The Front Room, I have.
Since my last solo exhibition in 2005 life has kept me busy being a mother, teacher, wife, cleaner, cooker, keeper, dancer, drinker, driver and singer. So to return to my practice feels wonderful and to be able to question the unknowability of being human is a privilege.
The characters within the paintings often have specific identities but my hope is people will make up their own stories. The stories are important but I use them to create a mood, a thought, a question about identity and how it changes and moves whilst we view and observe this world around us.
